Legion Official Season 2 Confirmed by FX And Marvel TV

Such recent X-Men movies as Deadpool and Logan have wowed audiences and critics, while also thriving at the box office. It’s been good news for the franchise on the small screen too, as the first live-action X-Men TV show, Legion, has been met with near-universal acclaim. Taking one of the odder corners of the Marvel Comics universe and building a mind-bending series around it has proven to be a bold move for FX, the network on which Legion airs.

Taking his acclaimed work from Fargo and dialing it way up, Legion creator Noah Hawley has crafted a cerebral and visually stunning character study that just happens to involve a good bit of mutant powers. As such, it’s being hailed as one of the best superhero TV shows ever, even while viewers debate what’s real and what’s in David Haller’s head. Though the premiere didn’t nab huge ratings, the success of the show from a critical standpoint appears to be enough for all involved.

FX and Marvel TV are now confirmed to be picking Legion up for its second, all-new season. With three episodes left to go in the first season, this is certainly a good sign for fans and those still trying to comb through the show’s mysteries. Speaking on the announcement, executive producer and head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb had this to say:

“We are thrilled there will be a new season of Legion. Noah’s spectacular take on David Haller and all the other characters he brought to life makes us ache for more. We’re particularly proud of our partners at FX and the success we share on our first TV series together.”

While it’s unknown where the rest of the season will go, or even if Hawley planned for the possibility of a new batch of episodes, some questions do arise. While things remain vague when it comes to Lenny, Division 3, and the mutant war, clarity has fallen on the show with each new episode. As such, one has to wonder what a new season of the series would look like, with a more cognizant David and greater clarity concerning what’s real on the show.

Still, there are plenty of places the series may yet go. In the comics, David has a whole host of wild personalities that could be integrated into Legion. Even if he gains some composure, it might still be a long road to recovery for him. Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart recently said he’d be open to appear on the show, given Professor X is David’s father in the comics. As we head towards the end of season 1, we’re likely to get a lot more news about Legion and its future, so stay tuned.
